Phone (2).png READING

Introduction

We learned that sometimes root words come from Greek or Latin words, but sometimes our phrases and words in English also come from myths! We will review greek myths and try to understand the word that was created from the myth.

Yesterday, we learned the word "herculean." Today, we will be finding out the origins of the word "echo."

To Do: Continue reading myths and relating them to stories you have read before.

Introduction

This week we will be reviewing informational writing.

Our goal is to write an informational/explanatory piece in the time span of a week. We should not be spending more than 20 minutes a day on this work.

Our next step is to use a graphic organizer. This will help us organize our writing in the next few days and give us a clear picture of what to write about.

EXTENDED WRITING-RESPONSE WRITING TASK

Ecosystems support all forms of life.

Think about the ideas in the two passages. Then write an informational/explanatory essay on how food chains work in an ecosystem.

Be sure to use information from BOTH passages as you write an informational/explanatory essay.

Writer’s Checklist
Be sure to:
• Introduce the topic clearly, provide a focus, and organize information in a way that makes sense.
• Use information from the two passages so that your essay includes important details.
• Develop the topic with facts, definitions, details, quotations, or other information and examples related to the topic.
• Identify the passages by title or number when using details or facts directly from the passages.
• Develop your ideas clearly and use your own words, except when quoting directly from the passages.
• Use linking words to connect ideas.
