Introduction

Today, I want to talk to you about use of informal language. We use informal language when we are chatting with friends and family, narrative writing dialogue, texting and social media, and sometimes poetry if it makes sense to use.

slang: a type of language that consists of words and phrases that are regarded as very informal, are more common in speech than writing
Examples: drip, boujee, bussin, salty

Introduction

We are continuing our work on opinion essays, but this time we are reading with a prompt in mind to be able to support our opinions with evidence from a text. We will use our readings to create an opinion essay.

Opinion Essays:

  • State an opinion that agrees or disagrees with a point of view
  • Common words: agree, disagree, for, against
  • Support with reasons, examples, and evidence
