In Your Notebook: During your reading of nonfiction this week, find words that are unfamiliar. How does the author help us understand what the word means? Create your own definition using the strategies listed above. Create your own chart like the one above. Can you find an example of all the IDEAS?

Introduction
Hi reader! We are going to be continuing our work with first and second hand accounts. Remember, first hand accounts happen when the author is a witness to what happened. Second hand accounts were written by someone who heard about it from someone else and may have multiple sources.

In Your Notebook: Read for thirty minutes from a non-fiction text. Then, write whether or not it is a second or first hand account and why. Do you think that most nonfiction are written in first hand or second hand? Why do you think that?
