Phone.pngGRAMMAR

Introduction

Hi grammarians! We are focusing on context clues with finding the meaning of words!

When strong readers come to an unfamiliar word, they use the clues around the words to determine the meaning.

Today, our focus is definitions.

Phone.pngWRITING

Introduction

Hi writers! We are starting our new unit on opinion writing! An opinion is personal and can vary from person to person.

Important things to remember when picking an opinion:

  • It will ask you to pick a side
  • You MUST pick ONE side.
  • You can mention the other side, but only to say why it’s wrong.
  • You must support your opinion with reasons and proof.
  • Stay organized with your reasons.

To do: Choose a prompt from the following options and start brainstorming strong reasons to support your opinion:

  • Is it necessary to learn cursive writing? Why or why not?
  • When should children get cell phones?
  • What state would be the best place to vacation?
  • What is the best pet?
  • Who is the best historical figure?
