When strong readers come to an unfamiliar word, they use the clues around the words to determine the meaning.

Introduction

As readers of informational text, we have to decide whether the text we are reading is a first hand or second hand account. 

A first hand account is a person who experienced what happened directly. They were a witness to the action.

In Your Notebook:  Write the types of First Hand Accounts: letters, diaries, speeches, autobiographies, and e-mails.
Read for 30 minutes from a nonfiction story of your choice. Answer the following questions:
