Reasons and Evidence in Informational Texts

Introduction

Hi Readers! When we are reading nonfiction or informational texts, we sometimes notice that the author feels a certain way about a topic. They have a specific belief, or opinion, on the topic that they are writing about.

Today, we will be looking at the author's perspectives and how they can be "for" or "against" a topic.

Visual

Author's perspective: - tells the author's opinion or belief
- sometimes you can tell if the author is FOR or AGAINST a topic

In Your Notebook:

During your reading, today, choose a nonfiction text (opinion text if possible).

Answer the following questions using the RACE strategy:

1. What is the main topic? How do you know?

2. What opinion does your author have on this topic?
