Reconstruction in Economics and Society - Day 130
Introduction
As you learned in the video from yesterday, the Freedmen's Bureau did many things to help former slaves. Another way that the southern economy, and society was reconstructed was through the creation of the Freedmen's Bureau. A bureau is like a government organization. The Freedmen's Bureau was a government agency that helped former slaves, and other people that were left with nothing after the war. The Bureau helped by giving clothing, providing medical treatment, and helping to find work for those that needed it. The Bureau also helped to establish schools so that all people could learn to be self-sufficient.

Videos are such a great way to learn about the experiences of Americans during this time. Today, time travelers... you guessed it… we will watch another great video! As you watch the video, use your journal and write down what you think in response to the following questions:
- How did education help former slaves become truly free?
- What was it like to attend a Freedmen’s school?
