Events of the Civil War - Day 107
Introduction
Timetravelers, as you learned in our last lesson, sparks were flying, and tensions were high between the northern states and the southern states. The Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865 between the Union and the Confederate States of America. One of the main reasons for the fighting was the issue of slavery. The southern states wanted the right to keep slaves. But the North thought slavery should be illegal. In this lesson, we will research the important events during the Civil War including the battle at Fort Sumter, the Emancipation Proclamation, General Sherman's March to the Sea, and General Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox.
First, take a look at the map below and respond to the questions in your journal.
