Abolitionism and Suffragism - Day 96

Introduction

It’s difficult to imagine a world where people were treated differently based upon their race, social status, or gender. Similar to the work of abolitionists, suffragists had to change the minds of male lawmakers in two ways. They had to get men to consider women as voters, and they had to get people to reconsider a woman’s role in society.

The following video focuses on how women in Idaho did just this, ahead of their time.

While you watch the video, use your journal and write down:

  • What do you think, what do you wonder, and what do you notice about the information presented?
  • What did women have to overcome to become voters and lawmakers in Idaho?
  • How did the women in Idaho inspire others?
  • How were the women of Idaho ahead of their time?
