Impacts of Expansion on Native Americans - Day 62

Impacts of Expansion on Native Americans - Day 62

Introduction

As European Americans began moving westward and acquiring new lands, the Natives were impacted in many ways. Over the next six days, we will be doing investigative research to outline some of the ways that the Native Americans were impacted.   You will be using this document Links to an external site. to guide your investigative research. Today you will complete the first row. We will work on this again for the next five days. As you complete your research, really think about how these people or events made an impact on the lives of Native Americans.

In March 1775, a group of North Carolinians led by Colonel Richard Henderson formed the Transylvania Company. They purchased all of the lands between the Kentucky and Cumberland Rivers from Cherokee Native Americans. Daniel Boone was hired to lead the party to open a path from Cumberland Gap all the way to the south bank of the Kentucky River. The path would become known as the Wilderness Trail. Watch the video below to learn more about one of the initial steps towards Westward Expansion.
