Impacts of Expansion on Native Americans - Day 60

Introduction

In the last lesson, we learned about the War of 1812: what caused it, the major events of the war, and the effects of the war on America. In this module, we will learn what happened when Americans began moving westward into new territories. It is important to understand that Americans were not only settlers from other countries, but also not the first people in North America. There were already people living on the land.  The next few lessons will focus on the impacts of expansion on the Native Americans.

Today, you will learn four more words that you will need to understand how young America, the teenager, began to explore, push boundaries, and challenge other groups of people. As you define these words, be sure to look for definitions that make sense in a historical context. For example: the word RESERVATIONS can have multiple meanings. It can mean to “book” something for a particular time or place. Historically, the word RESERVATIONS is used to describe the land that Native Americans were forced to move to when European Americans started to move west.
