The Declaration of Independence - Day 26
The Declaration of Independence - Day 26
Introduction
In the last module, we learned about the conflicts between the colonists and Great Britain. As a result of these conflicts, there were physical battles that caused change. It is important to also understand that during this time of conflict, there were also many changes happening in government meetings. As soldiers fought for change on battlefields, influential leaders were also fighting for change in political ways.
Over the next three days, you will learn the vocabulary that you will need to understand how young America, newly independent from Britain, began to establish their own government. As you define these words, be sure to look for definitions that make sense in a historical context. For example, the word STATE can be a verb, meaning to say or define something, but if you think about what it means in a historical context, the right definition would be for the noun, STATE, a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government.
