Investigate: How Sound Travels - Day 22

Introduction

Today we will continue to investigate sound waves.

Because of the nature of sound, sound waves must travel through something. Scientists call this traveling through a “medium”. Sound can travel through air, water, and other solid materials. Watch the video below to see how a sound wave effects water.

  • Grab your Science Journal and pencil.

  • Read the directions on the slide below

Your Task: In your Science Journal, draw a scientific diagram showing what you observed when watching the video. Label your drawing to show a vibration and sound waves. Then, write the question posed to you at the end of the video: If you were under water, would you HEAR the tuning fork? Answer the question and explain your reasoning using complete sentences.
