Introduction: Can You Hear Me Now?

In this lesson, we will continue to dig deeper into the science of sound. We will investigate how sound, once produced by a vibration, reaches your ears so that you can hear it.

Do you remember how vibrations produce a sound? Well… how does that sound reach your ear? Sound travels. Sound travels in waves. Watch the video below to learn about the science of sound waves. Directions:

  • Grab your Science Journal and pencil.

  • Read the directions on the slide below

Your Task: In your Science Journal, draw a picture of someone playing a musical instrument.
Add an audience member who is listening. Add sound waves to your drawing to show how the sound travels from the instrument to the listener’s ears. Then add a caption explaining how sound travels.
