Modeling Equivalent Decimals

Introduction

In today’s lesson, you will use your ability to represent hundredths and tenths in order to model and identify equivalent decimal fractions.  Remember, equivalent means the same value but it may not be the same fraction.  Equivalent decimals also exist, same value, different number.  We use zeros as placeholders in order to represent these decimal numbers.


 Visual 

Equivalent decimals, fractions, tenths, and hundredths. Three tenths can be represented as 0.3. It is equivalent to thirty hundredths. Thirty hundredths can be represented as 0.30. Five tenths can be represented as 0.5. It is equivalent to fifty hundredths. Fifty hundredths can be represented as 0.50
