🟩 Unit Fractions in Multiplication Day 133

Unit Fractions in Multiplication

Introduction

Mathematicians, we have been studying operations with fractions, addition and subtraction to be exact. In this module, you will be exploring the link between the multiplication of whole numbers and the multiplication of fractions.

In this lesson, you will review and expand upon the idea of fractions being made up as the sum of unit fractions. Then, you will be able to represent the sum of the unit fractions as a multiplication equation.

 Visual

four 1/5s

In the image above you can see four one-fifth fractions. Before you learned you could represent this as 15+15+15+15+=45

We also know that multiplication is repeated addition. So, since there are four 15s, you could also write 4×15=45
