Part 1 Directions:
- In the interactive below, choose the square geoboard.
- Practice building your own rectangles and determine the area of each by counting the number of squares that would fit inside.
- Write a multiplication equation in your math notebook that includes length, width, and area in square units.
Part 2 Directions:
Directions:
- Open the interactive drawing assignment below, and make a copy.
- Use the tiles to measure the rectangles in square units.

In Your Math Notebook:
Let’s get out our math journals and work through the following application problem. Make sure you read the problem carefully, draw a picture to match your thinking and write and solve an equation.
R (Read the problem carefully.) Wendy and Wendell each have some equal size square stickers that they arrange into an array on the covers of their math notebooks. Wendy makes a 6 by 5 array. Wendall makes an array that is 3 by 10. Who has the bigger area covered on their notebook? How do you know? D (Draw a picture.) W (Write and solve an equation.) |
