Unit 7, Lesson 15-- Finding Area of Larger Rectangles

Lesson 15- Finding Area of Larger Rectangles

Introduction

Hello Mathematicians! Today we will work on strategies for finding the area of rectangles with larger side lengths.

Take a look at this rectangle.  Using the digits 1 through 9 at most one time each, find the largest area for the rectangle by filling the boxes. Justify your reasoning.   Show your thinking in your math notebook.

Rectangle. Length labeled b = box box. Height labeled h = box

Let’s get out our math journals and  work through the following application problem. Make sure you read the problem carefully, draw a picture to match your thinking and write and solve an equation.

Read, Draw, Write. DONE!

R (Read the problem carefully.)

The living room was 14 feet long and 8 feet wide. What would the area of the living room be?

D (Draw a picture.)

W (Write and solve an equation.)
