Directions:
- Let's experiment with fractions in the lab again today.
- Using the interactive, navigate to the Fraction: Intro Lab.
-
Build a non-example of a unit fraction. Remember, a unit fraction is a fraction with 1 in the numerator. It is one piece of a whole. A non-unit fraction is made by combining two or more unit fractions. It would be a fraction with a numerator other than 1.
-
What do you observe when you make the numerator a number other than 1?
-
Draw and label 3 non- unit fractions in your notebook.

In Your Math Notebook:
Let’s get out our math notebook and work through the following application problem. Make sure you read the problem carefully, draw a picture to match your thinking and write an answer with numbers and words.
R (Read the problem carefully.) Ellie makes a triangle with Play- Doh. Her little sister comes along and takes one fourth of it. How much of the Play-Doh does Ellie have left? D (Draw a picture.) W (Write an answer with numbers and words.) |
