Unit 5 Lesson 20-- Using Addition and Subtraction to Solve Problems with Time
Lesson 20-- Using Addition and Subtraction to Solve Problems with Time
Introduction
Hello Mathematicians! Today we will use what we have learned about measuring time and calculating elapsed time to create schedules.
Interactive
Part 1 Directions:
- In the interactive below, answer the questions using to review what you have learned about measuring time.
Part 2 Directions:
- Your class has been asked to create a plan for a flex activity day. Your teacher has given class time to create plans. Students will vote to determine the best plan. The student whose plan is chosen will get a pizza for lunch on that day. The information you need to know is:
- Start time can be 8:00, 8:15, 8:30, or 8:45.
- End time is 2:45.
- Recess is 15 min (1 block only).
- Lunch is 30 min (1 block only).
- Art activities are 30 min. blocks.
- Physical activities are 15 min. blocks.
- Performances are 45 min. blocks.
- Indoor games are 15 min. blocks.
- There must be at least 2 blocks each of art activities, physical activities and performances scheduled during the day.
- In your notebook, create 2 charts like the example below to create 2 different plans.
- On the Next page, share the plan that you think students will vote for. Share why you think this is the one they will vote for.
