Lesson 6-- Retelling & Solving 2- Step Story Problems

Lesson 6-- Retelling & Solving 2- Step Story Problems

Introduction

Hello Mathematicians! Today we will practice retelling and solving 2- step story problems.  Remember: when you are solving a story problem, an important step is to retell it in your own words.  This helps you to understand what is happening in the story and what missing information you need to solve for.

Interactive Videos

In each of the videos, practice identifying key information in the story problems, retelling the sequence of events, and choosing strategies to solve for the unknown information.

Directions:

  • Open the interactive slide link below, and make a copy.
    • Create your own math stories, including one for others to solve.
    • Start with an equal group situation.  The factors can include 2 single- digit factors, a teen number and a single digit, or a single digit and a multiple of 10. Then, create a change for each story that requires either addition or subtraction.
  • Share your stories on the Next page.
