Welcome back Mathematicians! Today, we will be working on comparing numbers.

Part 1 Directions:

  • In the interactive below, compare numbers using inequality signs.

Part 2 Directions:

  • Open the interactive drawing link below, and make a copy.
  • Follow the instructions to play the Highest Roller Game.  Find a partner to play, or play against yourself in 2 rounds.  The goal is to make the highest number possible in 4 rounds.  Use ordering and comparison to determine the winner.
  • To determine digits for game play, use the spinner below (change the number of sections to 9), or use a 10- sided die if available.
  • After the game, answer the following questions in your notebook:
    • Order the four numbers from each player's chart from least to greatest.
    • Compare the greatest numbers from each player using the symbols <, >, or =.  
      • Ex: 8257 > 6197
    • Write a 4- digit number that is greater than your highest number.  Explain how you know it is greater.
    • Write a 4- digit number that is less than your lowest number.  Explain how you know it is less.
