Unit 2, Lesson 18 -- Multiplying by 3
Lesson 18-- Multiplying by 3
Introduction
Hello Mathematicians! We learned that we can use what we know about doubling to find 3 groups. Today, we will continue to practice multiplying by 3.
Interactive
Directions:
- Use the red counters to create an array that shows 2 rows of 7.
- What multiplication equation can you write to represent the array?
- Add 1 row of 7 with yellow counters.
- How can we write an equation to show that we started with 2 groups of 7 and added another group of 7?
- Now try making these arrays, and writing an equation:
- 3 X 4 =
- 3 X 9 =
- 3 X 3 =
Assignment
- Draw the chart below in your math notebook.
- Create your own multiplication story that shows items that come in groups of 3. Draw a picture, write a story problem, and model
the equation with a number line.
