Unit 2, Lesson 17-- Deriving the 3s Facts

Lesson 17-- Deriving the 3s Facts

Introduction

Hello Mathematicians! Today we will continue to work on fluently multiplying and dividing.  Take a look at this image.

Two cartons with 6 eggs each.

In your math notebook, answer these questions:

  • How many cartons, or groups of eggs do you see?
  • How many eggs are in each group?
  • How many total eggs do you see?
  • What multiplication equation can we write to represent what is shown?

Now look at this image.  What is changed between the first image and the second image?  Jot down your thoughts in your notebook.

In Your Math Notebook:

Let’s get out our math journals and  work through the following application problem. Make sure you read the problem carefully, draw a picture to match your thinking and write and solve an equation.

Read, Draw, Write. DONE!

R (Read the problem carefully.)

Leo had 3 buckets. He put 6 seashells in each bucket. How many seashells did he have?
