🔵 Lesson 7: Dream Big

Connecting in our Community

Introduction

Dream Big

Hi Students!

Today is very exciting.  Now that we have learned about the importance of each of the roles (President, Governor, and Mayor) you will learn about the processes that are in place to become an elected official.  In fact, we are going to pretend that you are running for Mayor at the next election!  You will have the opportunity to use your voice to help your community understand how your passions can help and serve their needs.

Students Will:

  • Watch the video about a class voting in China.  After watching the video, reflect on the questions listed.
  • Students will choose an environmental problem they care about.  They will write a speech using facts along with scenarios to help the audience understand the importance of siding with them in order to fix the problem.

Final Speeches

Questions to think about while watching the video below:

    • Was there only one candidate?  Why?

    • What did the candidates promise they would do if “elected”?

    • Compare how the classmates reacted when results were being read?

    • What “good citizenship” characteristics did the candidates show?
