🔵Lesson 3: The Sun as a Star
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
The Sun as a Star
Introduction
Hey there little astronauts, we have learned about stars' uniqueness and why some appear to be brighter than others. Today we are going to learn about our daytime star- THE SUN! The Sun is the most prominent object in the daytime sky. It gives us light and heat. Despite its seemingly huge size, the Sun is really just an average star.
Students Will:
- Watch a video about the sun.
- Compare the sun to other stars in our sky by explaining why the sun appears brighter and larger than other stars.
Video
Watch the video to find out more about the sun.
What is your hypothesis?
After watching that video and doing the lab yesterday- what is your hypothesis? Why does the Sun appear brighter and larger than other stars to us?
In Your Journal: Jot down your hypothesis in your journal.
Watch
We are going to have some fun digging a little deeper into why objects appear to look different depending on how close or how far they are from the viewer. Look at the pictures and see if you can figure out what they are.

Assignment
Night Sky Observations
In Your Journal: You will observe the night sky and record what you see.
As scientists, it is important to observe something over, and over again before we can come to a conclusion. Go out again tonight at the same time, to the same spot, and look at the stars. Make sure you are taking note of what you see.
