Introduction

Welcome readers!  This week we will focus on retelling a story and we will discuss the central message or lesson of the text. First you will review our retelling hand anchor chart and watch the anchor chart video to begin our lesson. After reviewing our anchor chart and video, you will read aloud the provided text.

Icon Assignment Activity

Today you will read the text aloud. Record your reading for your teacher. Reread the text as many times as you need to help you comprehend the text. After reading you will complete the graphic organizer. You will retell the story and state the central message or lesson you learned from the text. Your text for today is “Check the Chicks”.

 

chicks Dad and mom said beth and chad needed to check the eggs. they will hatch into chicks. the eggs are in the pen. beth and chad check the eggs an sunday and monday. they did not check the eggs on tuesday. on wednesday beth and chad rush to check the chicks. There are no chicks or eggs in the pen. the kids are sad. they think mom and dad will be mad beth and chad look for the eggs. they look by the tree and in the grass. the kids hear a chirp, chirp, chirp. the chicks did hatch. beth and chad check the chicks every day.
