Phonics Day 1: oa ow

Introduction

Welcome to day 1 of our phonics lesson. We are continuing to learn about the other sounds vowels make. Vowels sometimes come in pairs. We like to use a saying that goes, “when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.” That means we often hear the long sound of the first vowel.

This week we will be looking at oa and ow words. Both of these vowel patterns make the long o sound.

Today we will substitute middle sounds in words to create new words, read long vowel words, and read our decodable story. Let’s begin.
