Phonics Day 1: Long A
Introduction
Hi First graders and welcome to day 1 of our long /a/ lesson. We are beginning to learn about the other sounds that vowels make. They can sound like their name. When words have an e at the end of the word the vowel in that word will often make a long sound. The long sound of a vowel is when it says its name. The long a simply says a. That’s simple enough right? Let’s look at a few long vowel words. We will first change a few letters in words to make new words, read long /a /words, and read our decodable story for the day. Let’s jump on this roller coaster and take off.
