Phonics Day 1: Digraph sh, wh, ph, and n’t, ‘s

Introduction

Welcome, first graders. This is Day 1 of a new phonics lesson. This week we will learn about the digraphs sh, wh, and ph.  Remember, a  digraph is when two letters represent one unique sound. The sh makes the /sh sound like you are telling someone to be quiet. The wh makes the /wh sound, like in the words: what, when, and why. The ph breaks many rules and makes a /f sound, like in the words phone, graph, and photo. Let’s blend a few words, read digraph words, and read a decodable story to understand these digraphs better.  Llama will show you first.
