Writing: Module 29, Lesson 4 (Day 144): Extended Written Response: Opinion Text

Session 2: Getting Your Ideas Down on Paper

Video

Hello writers, today I want to remind you that when you write opinion essays, it helps to organize your essays into a claim and reasons that support your claim, using details from the texts.

Visual

This is a visual of what your essay organization could look like. Start at the trunk of the tree and move to the first limb and explore the reasons and details.

Interactive

Remember: on the Milestones you will be asked to read two passages on a topic and then write either an informational or opinion piece based on what you just read. Today, you will practice drafting an opinion piece based on two texts.

Directions:

  • Use the interactive to re-read the passages about dogs in restaurants.
  • Using your notes from the last session, and the writing checklists, draft your opinion piece.
  • Be sure to export and save your draft for the next assignments.
