Writing: Module 28 , Lesson 4 (Day 139): Extended Written Response: Opinion Text

Session 1: Writing Text- Based Opinions: Making a Plan

Video

Hello writers. When you write a text-based opinion piece, you start with stating your claim based on a passage. This is different from picking a topic you feel strongly about and writing about your opinion. For text-based opinion pieces, you will choose to write about how you agree with one of the passages and find reasons in the passage that support your opinion. This is what you will be asked to do on the Georgia Milestones.

Interactive

Today, you’ll practice reading passages and thinking about using them to support your opinion. As you read these two passages on dogs in restaurants, think about what parts help you prove your opinion and which don’t and highlight these parts. Your goal today is to work on understanding the topic and thinking about what side you’d take and why.
