Directions:

  • Start the 45-minute timer and begin writing.
  • It is suggested to break up the 45 minutes.  Spend:
    • 15 minutes to plan
    • 15 minutes to write
    • 15 minutes to revise
  • Prompt:
    • Write a personal narrative, a true story about something that happened to you.
    • Focus on writing all the details of that one small moment in your life.

  • Now that you have your writing, it is time to reread and revise.  Here is a sample of an edited piece of writing. 
  • Notice that you need to check for ending punctuation, capital letters, spelling that makes sense, and writing that is neat so that others can read your awesome writing.

Directions:

Be sure to check your writing for each of the following. Check each item as you review your story.

Reread & Revise

  • Reread your story one sentence at a time.
  • Do all the parts make sense?
  • If not, try rewriting the part that is confusing.
  • Check for capital letters & punctuation.

Other things to consider, does your story have:

  • A beginning
  • Events are in order
  • Details to help readers play that movie in their mind
  • An ending

After you have finished revising and editing, go to the next page to submit your assignment.
