Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying r-Controlled Vowels.

Introduction

Today, you will identify word with r-controlled vowels (er, ir, ur).

• In the last module, we learned the following r-controlled spelling patterns: ar, or, oar, and ore. Remember, when a vowel is followed by the letter r, the r changes the sound that the vowel makes.
• This week, we are going to learn the following r-controlled spelling patterns: er, as in the word verb; ir, as in the word bird; and ur, as in the word fur.

In Your Notebook: Please draw a three-column chart. Label each column with er, ir, and ur.
