Phonics: Module 20, Lesson 1 (Day 96): Suffixes er, or
Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Words with Suffixes
Introduction
- Today, you will read and spell words with suffixes.
Visual
- We are going to learn two suffixes. A suffix is a letter or group of letters placed at the end of a word to create a new word.
- Look at the word worker. The suffix -er is added to the base word work. The suffix -er means “one who does something.” So the word worker means “someone who works.”
Task In Your Notebook:
- Draw a two-column chart. Write er and or in the top columns on the chart.
Interactive
- Directions: Read each word. Sort the word under the correct category. After completing the sort, please copy this sort into your phonics/word study journal.
