Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Vowel-Consonant-e (VCe) Syllables

Introduction

Today, you will identify, read, and spell words with vowel-consonant-e syllables.

Look at the word, locate. The word, locate, contains a vowel-consonant-e spelling pattern. When a vowel is followed by a consonant and then the letter e, the e is usually silent and the vowel sound before the e is usually long.

Read each word. Sort the word under the correct category. After completing the sort, please copy this sort into your phonics/word study journal.
