Phonics: Module 34, Lesson 1 (Day 166): Identifying Words with Adjective Suffixes
Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Words with Adjective Suffixes
Introduction
- Today, you will read and spell words with adjective suffixes.
Visual
We are going to learn five adjective suffixes. A suffix is a letter or group of letters placed at the end of a word to create a new word.
- Look at the word hopeful. It is an adjective made up of the word base hope and the adjective suffix -ful.
- We know that the suffix -ful can mean “full of,” so hopeful means “full of hope.”
- Let’s learn the meaning of the other suffixes:
- The suffix -ous means” having the quality of.”
- The suffixes -ible and -able mean “can be done.”
- The suffix -some means “tending to be.”
Task
In Your Notebook: Draw a four-column chart. Write -ful, -ous, -ible, -able, and -some in the top columns on the chart.
