Introduction
- Today, you will read and spell words with adverb suffixes.
Visual
We are going to learn three suffixes. A suffix is a letter or group of letters placed at the end of a word to create a new word.
- Look at the words in the table below. Each word is an adverb that tells how or in what manner something is done.
- The word quickly is made up of the word quick and the adverb suffix -ly. When the adverb suffix -ly is added to quick, it forms an adverb that tells how or in what manner something is done.
- Other examples:
- Noisily means in a noisy manner.
- Sideways means in a way that goes to one side.
- Clockwise means in the same manner as the hands of a clock move.

In Your Notebook: Draw a four-column chart. Write -ly, -ily, -ways, and -wise in the top columns on the chart.
