Phonics: Module 31, Lesson 1 (Day 151): Identifying Related Words Day
Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Related Words
Introduction
- Today, you will read and spell related words.
Visual
We are going to learn about related words.
- Look at the words in the table below.
- This is the base word predict, which means “to tell what will happen in the future.” When you add the suffix -able, the new word predictable means “able to be predicted.” When you add the suffix -ion, the new word prediction means “the act or process of predicting.”
- By adding suffixes, we can create new words that are related, but with slightly different meanings. We could also add other endings, or suffixes, such as -ed and -ing.
Task
In Your Notebook: Draw a three-column chart. Write Base Word, Related Word 1, and Related Word 2 in the top columns on the chart.
