Introduction
Today, you will read and spell words with unaccented final syllables.
Visual
We are going to learn about unaccented final syllables.
- An unaccented final syllable comes at the end of a word and is spoken with less emphasis than an accented syllable.
- The vowel sound is usually pronounced like “uh.”
- This is the word broken. The final syllable in the word broken is -ken.
- Notice how the letters e and n sound like “uhn” instead of “en.”
- This syllable is unaccented. It does not get stressed when you say the word.
Task
In Your Notebook: Draw a four-column chart. Write en, on, ain, and in in the top columns on the chart.
