Phonics: Module 28, Lesson 1 (Day 136): Identifying Words with Prefixes (pre-, re-)

Phonics: Lesson 1 -  Identifying Words with Prefixes

Introduction

Today, you will read and spell words with prefixes.

Visual

We are going to learn two prefixes. A prefix is a group of letters placed at the beginning of a word to create a new word.

  • Look at the word prepay. The prefix pre- is added to the base word pay. The prefix pre- means “before.” So the word prepay means “pay before.” When you prepay for something, you pay for it before getting it or in advance.
  • Now look at the word reread. The prefix re- is added to the base word read. The prefix re- means “again” So the word reread means “read again.”
