Phonics: Module 27, Lesson 1 (Day 131): Identifying Words with Prefixes
Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Words with Prefixes
Introduction
Today, you will read and spell words with prefixes.
Visual
We are going to learn two prefixes.
- A prefix is a group of letters placed at the beginning of a word to create a new word.
- Look at the word dislike. The prefix dis- is added to the base word like. The prefix dis- means “not” or “opposite of.” So the word dislike means “to not like.”
- Now look at the word unsafe. The prefix un- is added to the base word safe. The prefix un- also means “not” or “opposite of.” So the word unsafe means “not safe.”
Task
In Your Notebook: Draw a two-column chart. Write dis- and un- in the top columns on the chart.
