Phonics: Module 26, Lesson 1 (Day 126): Identifying Words with Suffixes
Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Words with Suffixes
Introduction
Today, you will read and spell words with suffixes.
Visual
- We are going to learn three suffixes. A suffix is a letter or group of letters placed at the end of a word to create a new word.
- Look at the word washable. The suffix -able is added to the base word wash. The suffix -able means “able to.” So the word washable means “able to be washed.”
- Now look at the word joyful. The suffix -ful is added to the base word joy. The suffix -ful means “full of.” So the word joyful means “full of joy.”
- Lastly, look at the word fearless. The suffix -less is added to the base word fear. The suffix -less means “without.” So the word fearless means “without fear.”
Task
In Your Notebook: Draw a three-column chart. Write -able, -ful, and -less in the top columns on the chart.
