A difficult decision

Mike sat in his room and frowned
. He had to decide whether to be in the school play or join the soccer team. He wanted to do both, but rehearsals and soccer
were scheduled on the same days.

Mike asked his parents for advice, but they said it was his decision.
. “All people face
decisions,” said Dad. “You’ll figure it out.” Mom told him to write down why he liked each activity. So Mike tried that.

He got some paper and made two columns with the headings “School Play” and “Soccer Team.” First, he wrote why he wanted to be in the
: I love to act. It’s a challenge. The other kids in the play are nice. Being onstage is fun.

Then he wrote why he wanted to play soccer: I love soccer. I’m good at it. My best friend
is on the team. The coach is great.

Mike spent hours thinking about his lists. But at bedtime, he still hadn’t decided. “Give it a rest,” said Dad. “The answer will come.”

The next morning, Mike looked at his lists again. When he went downstairs for dinner
