Phonics: Module 16, Lesson 2 (Day 77): Inflectional Endings

Phonics: Lesson 2 - Build Automaticity with Inflectional Endings.

Introduction

Today, you will blend words with inflectional endings and read words to develop fluency.

  • Yesterday, we learned how to identify words with inflectional endings. When a word has a short vowel followed by a consonant, such as clap, double the final consonant before you add -ed or -ing.
  • When a word ends with a silent e, such as smile, drop the final e before you add -ed or -ing.
  • When a word has a vowel team followed by a consonant, such as rain, or a vowel followed by two consonants, such as wish, do not change the word when you add -ed or -ing.

Let’s practice building our reading fluency by completing the Build Automaticity with Inflectional Endings.
