Directions:

Answer the following questions about the two poems in the discussion below.
1. According to the poem Truth by Nikki Grimes:
- What are the two things being compared in line 1…

- Why do you think that?
2. According to the poem The Storm Ending by Jean Toomer:
- The two things being compared in lines one and two are …
  - thunder clouds and flowers opening up

  - the sound of thunder and flowers
- Why do you think that?
3. After having read both poems you can see that Nikki Grimes has used some of the same words as Jean Toomer.
- One of the words is thunder. Do you think thunder is being used the same way by both poets?
- Why or why not do you think that?
