Half-Empty or Half-Full?Long ago, there lived a girl named Lena who was never satisfied with what she had. Lena always felt that her life was like a half-empty glass. When the warm sun was shining, she wished for rain. When the cool rain fell, she wished for sunshine. Something that bothered Lena all the time was that her home was small. Actually, Lena’s cottage was lovely and cozy. It kept her warm in winter and cool in summer. However, she thought it was not large enough and envied others who had grander homes. One morning, Lena was picking raspberries when a summer storm began to stir. Soon tree branches were shaking, and the wind blew away her basket of berries. Lena ran home for shelter, but when she got there, the roof had blown away. “How silly I have been!” she thought. “I should have been grateful for what I had.” Lena decided she needed to change her thinking. So moments later, when the sun came out, she thought, “The sun feels wonderful!” Then she began to build her new roof. And from that day forward, Lena saw her life as a glass that was half-full. |
