Hello readers! Today, you will practice summarizing text.

In Your Notebook:  

Directions:

  • Read the poem:  After the Rain Download After the Rain

  • When you are done, grab your Reading Notebook.

  • In your reading notebook you will write:

    Main Idea  - Section 1

    Main Idea - Section 2

    Summary

    Skip 5-6 lines after each heading (see picture for example)

Notebook Example. Main Idea Section 1: [Skip 5 lines). Main Idea Section 2: [Skip 5 lines). Summary:

 

  • Now reread After the Rain.  This time, stop after the first two sentences and think of the main idea of that section and write it down.

  • Continue reading. After the last section of the poem,  determine the main idea for that section and jot it down.

  • Then reread the two main ideas and see if you can summarize what you wrote in 20 words or less..
