Phonics: Module 8, Lesson 1 (Day 36): r-Controlled Vowels
Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying r-Controlled Vowels.
Introduction
Today, you will identify word with r-controlled vowels (ar, or).
When the letter a is followed by r, they make the /är/ sounds you hear in the word star. When the letter o is followed by r, they make the /ôr/ sounds you hear in the word sport. The /ôr/ sounds can also be spelled with the letters oar as in roar and ore as in score.
In Your Notebook: Please draw a four-column chart. Label each column with ar, or, oar, and ore.
Read each word. Sort the word based on its phonics spelling pattern. Please complete this sort in your phonics/word study journal. You will upload a picture of your sort on the next page.
