Reread and Respond

Reread the passage.

Julie’s Bike

Julie gazed at her beautiful new bicycle and smiled. She had worked very hard for many months to buy this bike. It had taken a long time, but now it was hers! Julie remembered when she first asked Mom and Dad for a new bike last July. They told her she would have to help out and earn some of the money herself. Julie understood what they were saying. She knew how hard both her parents worked to give her and her brothers a good home.

So for the past six months, Julie had worked at quite a few jobs to earn money. She had run errands for neighbors and walked their dogs. She had even raked leaves and helped Mr. Gleason clean out his garage. Julie had saved up half the money, and then Mom and Dad had given her the rest. Yesterday, they had all gone to the bike shop and bought the beautiful blue bicycle she had chosen.

“We are so proud of you!” Mom said. Dad nodded and gave Julie a big hug. In fact, Julie was feeling very proud of herself!
